Method and practical guide
Currency conversion using cross rates
The tool retrieves the latest available USD-based rates from the online source shown on the page, then calculates a cross rate between the selected currencies.
How it is calculated
When the source lists how much of each currency equals one USD, A to B is calculated as amount × B-per-USD rate ÷ A-per-USD rate. The page shows rate status and update time.
Reference values
- Rates change with markets and provider update times
- Banks, cards, and payment platforms usually add spreads or fees
- The page does not present an old local rate as current when online data is unavailable
Worked examples
- Select USD and CNY for the provider’s current reference value
- Select EUR and JPY to calculate a cross rate through the shared USD base
- Swap the currencies to see the reverse reference rate
Common uses
Currency estimates are useful for travel budgets, international shopping, and invoice planning. Actual settlement should use the final quote from a bank or payment provider.
